New Evidence of Zearn Math Effectiveness: Strong results from 5-year, quasi-experimental design study of over 800 schools and 100,000 students
Conducted by a Harvard GSE doctoral student
A new landmark study in terms of breadth of schools and years of usage shows new evidence on Zearn Math effectiveness. Findings include:
- Learning gains equivalent to 1.5 months of additional instruction: schools whose students consistently used Zearn Math digital lessons saw outsized gains in state math test scores relative to schools that used other high-quality instructional materials alone.
- Positive effects compound over time: students who used Zearn Math for multiple years demonstrated even greater increases in achievement.
- Evidence of impact across hundreds of schools: the study was conducted across more than 800 Louisiana schools and over 100,000 students over 5 years, showing the transformative impact of Zearn across implementations.
Put simply, the impressive effects observed are an exciting indication of the scalable impact of Zearn Math across different school contexts, especially as we collectively look to accelerate learning in the months and years ahead. This new study further strengthens Zearn as an “evidence-based” program as defined by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), qualifying Zearn for Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) and School Improvement funding.
