How much time should my child spend learning with Digital Lessons?
Each of our Independent 1st -5th grade Digital Lessons typically take about 30 minutes to complete. Kindergarten Digital Activities take about 10 minutes to complete. Your child may need more or less time, and that’s completely okay. Our lessons are designed for students to move through them at their own pace. Preview the features of a Digital Lesson here.
How many Digital Lessons should my child complete?
Teachers often set weekly lesson completion goals; we recommend checking in with your child’s teacher to make sure that you’re both aligned on how many lessons your child should be doing. That said, we recommend completing four lessons each week to complete the full year of math. If your child is interested in additional math content after completing their weekly lesson goal, they can use the “My Stuff” section of their Student Feed to access bonus problems and keep the math learning going.
How can I track my child’s progress?
There are a variety of methods to keep track of progress! One option is to view the badges that your child has earned in “My Stuff”. Many students love to share this information. Another great way to track progress is by sliding a paperclip along the tracker included in our Zearn Helpers as your child completes lessons throughout the week. For more detailed information on your child’s progress with Zearn Math, we recommend reaching out to your child’s teacher, since they have access to reports that offer progress updates side-by-side with other information to provide a more holistic view of your child’s math learning.
My child isn’t using Zearn Math at school. Can we still use Zearn Math?
Absolutely. As a nonprofit, our instructional materials are free for families and kids. In our Help Center you can access Parent/Caregiver Packs with all the information you need to create an account for yourself and your child, help your child log in to their account, and orient them to Zearn Math Digital Lessons, so they can begin learning with Zearn Math at home.
My child got a class code. How do I use this?
Class Codes offer an easy way for your child to join their teacher’s classroom. If your child is not currently enrolled in their teacher’s classroom, once they log into their account for the first time, they’ll be prompted to enter their teacher’s Class Code. Your child doesn’t have to enter a Class Code every time they log in—just the first time, so if they are already enrolled in their teacher’s classroom and have logged in before, they’ll be taken straight to their Student Feed where they can start working on lessons. You can find step-by-step instructions on our Help Center.
Why do some lessons appear locked?
When your child logs into their Zearn account, they see their personal Student Feed. This feed has two sections: “Next Up” and “My Stuff”. Next Up is where students work on their current assignment from their teacher. My Stuff is where students can go to see the lesson badges they have earned and, if their school has purchased a School Account, review earlier content (all future content will be locked). You can visit our Help Center to learn more.
