Frequently asked questions

How does Zearn Math work alongside my curriculum?

Zearn Math is designed to reinforce and deepen the grade-level math students are learning with their teacher. South Carolina Curriculum Companion Guides, available directly in the Zearn Math platform for South Carolina educators, help teachers connect Zearn Math to their high-quality instructional materials by identifying the Zearn Math Mission aligned to each curriculum unit.

Once a Mission is assigned, students work through a sequence of digital lessons that builds deep understanding through the Concrete-Representational-Abstract progression, provides adaptive support when students need it, and allows students to move ahead when concepts are clicking. Teachers assign at the Mission level, so students can work at their own pace while staying focused on the same grade-level math they are learning in class.

Together, Curriculum Companion Guides and real-time reports help South Carolina teachers use Zearn Math as a coherent companion to Tier 1 instruction.

How do teachers assign content in Zearn Math?

South Carolina teachers can use the Curriculum Companion Guide for their school or district’s high-quality instructional material to assign Zearn Math content connected to the unit they are teaching.

South Carolina teachers can access it from the Zearn Math Welcome Page, find the curriculum unit they are beginning, and assign the connected Zearn Math Mission with just a few clicks. Students then work through the Mission in order—no daily lesson assignment is required.

At the start of each new curriculum unit, teachers return to the guide to review the recommended Mission. In some cases, students will continue working in the same Mission; in others, teachers will assign a new one. Because assignments happen at the Mission level, students can work at their own pace while staying focused on the same grade-level math they are learning in class.
